style board: euro country mod, black & white dining room

A casual mix of styles with just enough elegance to lend a bit of formality...the room has 2 large floor to ceiling windows and a door leading to the patio. The bistro mirror will lean on the wall between the windows. The plain wall is definitely large enough for more art, but I need more time to search. I actually want the painting above, to set on the floor and lean, with other pieces, maybe some colored silk papers, stretching up to the ceiling.

tuesday's treasure: the most perfect summer home

Yes, my dream home is a glam-boho-mod California Ranch, but I would gladly do a house swap and stay a few weeks at designer Carolyn Espley-Miller's home in Carpenteria, California... featured in House Beautiful (not sure when). This home, just the photos, puts me in auto-relax mode. The textures, the colors...aaah, I just love it!

French Country meets the beach, absolutely lovely.

fab find(s) + stylish concept: outdoor pillow pit

I made a delicious 2 quart pitcher of iced tea yesterday afternoon... and drank it all! Needless to say, I could not fall asleep, well not until after 1 a.m. and then it was rather fitful after that. So today I am absolutely exhausted, and all I want to do is crawl into my future outdoor pillow pit. I promise you that I will someday have one!

How awesome would a pillow pit be to curl up and do some reading, napping, research, napping, napping or outdoor movie watching? Possibly the greatest invention evah!

friday musings...

image from umeandthesea @ tumblr via pinterest Christine Martinez "Words to Live By"

After a looong weekend last weekend, I feel like I have been playing to catch-up all week. I swear my days have been shortened to 4 hours instead of 24! Looking forward to spending time with the gang tonight, a beautiful Colorado weekend and getting back on track with everything come Monday. Until then, you know what to do...

Have a super weekend!

tuesday's treasure(s): kitchens, day & night

While whipping up some potato salad today for a cookout tonight, my little kitchen seemed so dark. While it is cozy at night, with the help of a chandi, during the day, not so much. I then had an ah-hah moment: in my next home I want two kitchens. One light and bright for day...

and one sexy and cozy for night...

ridiculous, maybe, but a girl can dream!

weekend musings: conrad resort, up a lazy river, well, a lazy ditch

After a quick inventory of bathing suits while packing for the weekend road trip (7 have never been worn), it donned on me that I need a vacation with water...

while it isn't a fancy resort with a float river, a weekend at Mom & Pops suits me just fine. With fine dining, fine wine and quality time with my PaPa on his weekend, a leisurely float in the ditch is a bonus.

food for thought: pizza!!!

Some of you may think I've completely lost it, who the bleep makes pizza in a 500° oven when it's 90° outside...
can't help it, I love pizza!!! And when one can make a delicious pie at home that doesn't cost $18, you too will join the crazy pizza bus.

While I'm one who makes pretty much everything from scratch, I must confess that waiting for pizza dough to rise is a pain in the pa-tooty, so being able to buy real dough in frozen form is freaking awesome! I have been buying my frozen pizza dough at Sunflower Farmers Market, wheat and white, both are delish. I believe the regular price is $2.50, maybe $2.99, and one ball makes two hand stretched pizzas.

Pepperoni Jalapeno Pizza

Frozen pizza dough, thawed

Olive oil, extra virgin

Garlic clove, chopped

One can Italian stewed tomatoes

Red pepper flakes

1/2 tsp. Greek oregano

1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning

Ball of fresh mozzarella

Pepperoni

Sliced jalapenos

Preheat oven and pizza stone, 500°.

Once the dough has thawed, it can be kept in the fridge for a couple of days. Bring dough to room temperature, about 30 min., while making the sauce and slicing the cheese.

Saute garlic briefly, do not allow it to brown. Add tomatoes, pepper flakes and herbs, let sauce simmer until ready to use. Before using the sauce, breakup tomatoes with a potato smasher.

Sprinkle corn meal on pizza peel, enough to allow the pizza not to stick. Form dough by hand, whatever shape you like. Brush olive oil lightly over the crust. Add sauce, only about 3 T, and spread over dough. I prefer fresh mozzarella over shredded. The flavor is so much better, it melts better and I find myself actually using less cheese with the slices, it's a personal preference, so use as much as you want. After cheese is on the pizza, add pepperoni, again, however much you like and ditto with the jalapenos.

Slide pizza onto hot pizza stone. Bake 9 min. (keep an eye on it, it may take less time at lower altitudes). When the crust is golden and you see nice golden spots on the cheese, your masterpiece is ready.

Enjoy!

style board: easy-breezy, black & white lounge

I've seen some fantastic black and white rooms (interior and exterior) lately, so today's board is just that...

and even though the concept seems pretty straight forward, well it aint! This board literally took me all day. I found so many great things to use, that I am going to do a whole house =) The first room sets the tone for the home, a mix of styles with a whole lot of ease...it's the first room because it contains the bar!

tuesday's treasure: urban cool, vogue living may/june 2009

Today's hip, sexy and oh so stylish interior, is one of the penthouses at the Establishment Hotel (formerly known as Ivy) in Sydney...

the interior is so swanky, I think a wardrobe of vintage Halston should be included with ones stay!

I never met a wall of 1x1's I didn't love...

Not a lot of commentary with this one, the photos speak for themselves.

fab find: touch of europe planters

The Summer party season is in full swing, and nothing makes as great a hostess gift as a lovely planter with an equally lovely plant... I found these lovelies at Touch of Europe. With a vast assortment of styles, there is a planter to make anyone giddy with happiness and score you another invite! However, you may want to give Carrie the carnations, not Charlotte ;)

friday musings: flip flop wine

If the name isn't enough to grab you, the the delightful goodness that is Flip Flop Pinot Grigio surely will!A winner of many awards; including PLATINUM for Best Varietal, Best of Class 2011 New World International Wine Competition. This is a must drink wine for Summer, a "light bodied, refreshing Pinot Grigio with tropical citrus, ripe pear and a zesty, clean finish", I couldn't have said it better myself.

I have also tried the Pinot Noir and Merlot, both are delish and will not disappoint. And if producing great wine wasn't enough, for every bottle of Flip Flop Wine purchased, Sole4Souls will provide a pair of flip flop sandals to someone in need. Participating stores also have a bin for shoe donations as well.

Enjoy ;)

Have a great weekend!

food for thought: in search of a "cool" steakhouse

Trying to find a cool, laid back steak joint is not an easy fete, well at least not in the Denver burbs...now don't get me wrong, I enjoy the classic steakhouse atmosphere, in the Winter. But during the warmer seasons, I want a a fun atmosphere; kinda like dining at home, not stuffy and fancy schmancy.

Buster wants to go out for steak tomorrow night, but not in the city, so I have been searching all morning and we have a couple of options...I'll report back next week.

In the meantime, anybody want to open a cool, hip, laid back steak joint in the Southeast area of Denver? Let's talk ;)

style board: global beachy mod great room

Our days here in Colorado lately have been gloriously warm, so my mind always wanders to the amazing water photo by jkl design on Etsy... I have not purchased it yet, but I will! I would love to have it blown up on a canvas, not sure if I'm allowed to do that, but I will certainly look into it ;)

I'm diggin the feel of today's board; relaxed and cozy, but still sophisticated.

tuesday's treasure: bohemian rhapsody, adore online

Today's treasure was featured in the June/July issue of Adore Home Online Magazine from Australia (which by the way, the e-zine is a treasure in and of itself, except for the tiny issue of so many items being available in Australia and not always shipped internationally)... the white canvas of the home allows all the colorful treasures to just POP!

The art featured in the living area is the work of Miranda Skoczek and I think it to be fantastic! The zebra painting is my fave...

This home is so well balanced with touches of rustic global coziness, mid-century as well as old world glam...truly a boho delight.
